Do you appreciate your small business customers, 365 days a year?

I used to work in a big Promotion agency in Chicago. The VP of marketing had a drawer filled with every greeting card imaginable. He probably went to Hallmark and picked a few cards from any scenario you could think of.

If it was somebody’s birthday or somebody got sick or promoted, he was ready to commemorate the occasion at a moments notice. Everybody thought he was the most thoughtful person at the agency.

What does this have to do with your business customers?

Try this experiment.

First, Go to Hallmark and pick some classy note cards.

Next time you are talking to a customer or client, make it a point to listen to what your customers are talking about … besides your business.

One might bring up a birthday or graduation. Maybe someone will mention someone close who is recovering in the hospital. Or someone will give you an unexpected order or maybe a referral.

Pick out that customer. Pull out your note cards and write a little note to them and mail it today.

Do it every day without fail. It could be 365 of the most important letters you ever mailed in your life.

You have just started a relationship marketing campaign to your best prospects.

Some will call you back and thank you for your thoughtfulness, some will remember you the next time they need your services and some might go out of their way to tell their friends about the most thoughtful person
they’ve done business with in a long time.

Wow, now you’ve started a grass roots “WOM” marketing campaign.
